For over two decades, Mathew Poovan has immersed himself in the world of North Indian classical music, playing the sitar with a depth and passion that resonates in every note. Trained under the esteemed Ustad Hamid Hossain, Mathew's musical journey also encompasses tabla and classical vocal, grounding his performances in a rich, multifaceted tradition.

As a dedicated teacher for the past 11 years, Mathew has nurtured new sitar players, guiding students both in person and online. His mentorship has led some to achieve national recognition, placing in the prestigious Academy of Indian Music and Fine Arts' sitar competition in the United States.

Beyond the classical realm, Mathew's versatility shines as a member of Laal Taal, an innovative band blending Indian classical music with funk, electronica, and rock. His ability to bridge traditional and contemporary genres makes him a dynamic force in the fusion music scene.

Mathew's artistic endeavors extend beyond the stage and classroom. With a background as the Creative Director at Aimrec, an independent Indian Classical Music record label, he played a pivotal role in launching albums, organizing concerts, and producing projects like Sangeetpedia Mobile. He was a producer of the world fusion band, Melodic Intersect.

When he's not captivating audiences with his music, Mathew brings his technical acumen to the entertainment tech industry, working as a senior technical product manager focused on machine learning. A proud father, he continues to balance his professional life with his passion for music, making a lasting impact on both fronts.
